Dual-display devices have become a sort of pet project for notebooks and tablet makers, and it appears that NEC intends to experiment with this concept, possibly by building upon another tablet.

As end-users know, some dual-display devices have already been revealed, such as MSI's keyboard-less laptop and Lenovo's ThinkPad W700ds.

There have also been showings of the Acer Iconia notebook and the Entourage Pocked eDGe dual-screen e-reader, among others.

Now, NEC is preparing to add its name to the list of companies with dual-screen electronics on the way.

What the company is said to be working on is a product belonging to the LifeTouch brand, similar to the Smartia detailed some time ago, in late November to be exact..

Essentially, it will have a pair of 7-inch screens capable of showing different information at the same time.

It is a given that both panels will be touchscreen devices, though there is still no word on whether the technology used will be capacitive or resistive touch.

The report also fails to mention anything concrete as far as the rest of the hardware goes, or about the software for that matter, except that Android will be present.

That said, there is no way of knowing what version of the operating system will be featured on the tablet.

Either way, it falls to the populace to start speculating on the platform, the amount of storage, the memory and the targeted market segment (consumer, enterprise etc).

Fortunately, at least some of the connectivity capabilities were disclosed, though they are hardly a surprise.

The NEC LifeTouch dual-screen slate will be equipped with Bluetooth, WiFi and 3G.

Either way, since an actual demo of the product is going to be done at the 2011 International Consumer Electronics Show, those interested can find solace in the fact that they won't have to wait too long for the details.
