The 3D trend has not yet turned into the 3D craze, but even though there are still those that would rather do without the glasses, it is only a matter of time before screens that look blurry to the eye become a more or less common sight in homes. NEC's latest 3D product, the Valuestar N VN790/BS all-in-one PC, can't exactly be seen as a step in this direction, since it costs more than most people are willing to give, but it is still an indicator of what is to come.

The Valuestar N AiO has a screen size of 20 inches and was made official just a short while ago. Its display panel's refresh rate is not mentioned, but it seems quite obvious that it is 120Hz, since this is the rate required for accurate rendering of two sets of images (60Hz for each eye). The native resolution of the screen is 1,600 x 900, not exactly Full HD but still quite noteworthy for a 3D panel.

That being said, for the configuration itself, NEC chose an Intel Core mobile processor to act as the heart, and paired it with 4GB of RAM. There is also the option of upgrading to 8GB of memory.

In addition, the machine features a Blu-ray drive, for high-definition and Blu-ray 3D media content, as well as two 3W stereo speakers and even a TV tuner and remote control. As for internal storage, a 1TB HDD should be more than enough to house a large number of multi-gigabyte files.

As consumers probably expect, the computer is pre-loaded with the Microsoft Windows 7 Home premium operating system. Shipments will start, in Japan, by the end of June and, when they do, hopefuls will have to part with about $2,450. The package will include the system itself, the necessary 3D glasses and a choice between Cyberlink PowerDVD 3D for Blu-ray, I-O DATA DigiCame3D Viewer LE for photos, plus I-O DATA DigitalVideo3D Player LE for non Blu-ray videos.
