Seeing that the consumer market for displays is practically swarming with new models, be they Full-HD LCDs and/or 3D solutions, NEC decided to once again turn its gaze towards the professional market, where large-format liquid crystal displays are becoming more and more widespread. In fact, with the economy recovering, demand is bound to improve in this area. As such, the company has unleashed a new member in the S Series family, the S521.

The S521 has a business-grade panel with an advanced cooling design that prevents image retention and provides an improved color uniformity. Also, the screen has a size of 52 inches. Fortunately, the displays does support a Full-HD resolution (1,980 x 1,080), which means that there should be few, if any, issues of pixelated images even on this large viewing surface. Furthermore, the S521 boasts a broad connectivity, which includes DisplayPort, VGA, DVI-D, 5 BNC (RGB/HV), composite, component, S-Video and HDMI inputs.

The product is mostly meant for use in public areas such as airports, retail stores, meeting rooms, corporate boardrooms and video-conferencing systems, where the ability to safely and stably function for extended periods of time is mandatory. In such applications, there will be ample use for the built-in video wall technologies, namely Group ID functions, Copy settings function, TileMatrix (up to 100 displays in a 10 x 10 matrix) and TileComp. Finally, the display is ENERGY STAR 5.0 compliant and should start shipping this month, at a price of $2,699, or $2,849 for the S521-AVT.

“The immense capabilities provided in the S521 give businesses the opportunity to increase their visibility with customers and communicate more effectively, all the while maintaining efficient use of energy,” Luke Bruschuk, product manager for NEC Display Solutions, said. “Its advanced cooling design elongates the product’s lifetime and minimizes the likelihood of image retention and inconsistent color display, which are crucial for those extended operation applications. The S521’s full, high-definition 52-inch screen creates brilliant images, and its value grows significantly when additional methods of displaying content are readily available through the future-proofing expansion slot.”
