NEC Display Solutions of America has long been a manufacturer of commercial liquid crystal displays (LCD), one of its most popular items being the ASLCD73VX-BK from the AccuSync Series. Nevertheless, as it happens with all technologies, this product seems to have been outgrown by the industry and, now, the company has announced a new AccuSync model aimed at taking its place. Known as the AS171, this is a 17-inch monitor that will cater to the needs of SMB users for an affordable and power-efficient display solution.

The AS171 is built with 50 percent less mercury than its predecessor and its power consumption is 21 percent lower than that of the ASLCD73VX-BK. This is enabled by a set of special technologies and features built into the device. Among these is the two-step ECO Mode, which enables significant power consumption savings. Not only that, but the AS171 even features a built-in carbon footprint meter for tracking of carbon savings. These elements have earned the display an EPEAT Silver Rating, as well as compliance with ENERGY STAR 5.0 and TCO 5.0 specifications.

Of course, the LCD incorporates these green features without any compromise to performance. The AS171 monitor has a maximum resolution of 1,280 x 1,024 pixels and a 900:1 contrast ratio. In addition, its response time is of merely 5ms and the display itself boasts tilt adjustability for added convenience.

“The 17-inch AS171 display brings variety and value to AccuSync Series users,” said Lynn Gu, Product Manager for NEC Display Solutions. “We continuously see a strong demand for the 17-inch standard aspect ratio from enterprise and small-to-medium business sectors, and our goal with this display is to offer improved green technology, energy efficiency and eco-friendly features.”

With an estimated price tag of $159, the monitor will begin shipping sometime during the current month and will come with a standard three-year parts and labor warranty, including the backlight.
