Over the past couple of years, NEC has rolled out quite a few digital signage solutions, very large displays used in public venues in order to deliver different types of content (promotional videos, various announcements, train/plane schedules, etc.). Most of these products target the corporate or public services environments and are thus quite expensive. The same applies to the company's latest announcement, namely the LCD8205, which offers a huge viewing space (82-inch diagonal size), but sells for an estimated $80,000.

The main selling point of the device from NEC is represented, quite obviously, by its screen. The 82-inch (1805.8 x 1015.7mm viewing area) XtraView+ LCD panel delivers a Full HD, 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution, 600 cd/m2 brightness for easy viewing in bright rooms and a high 5000:1 contrast. The viewing angles are also quite good, namely 178 degrees on both horizontal and vertical directions, and the same can be said about the response time (given the size of the device), which is of around 8 ms.

It's also interesting to note that, much in the same way as most other digital signage solutions, the MultiSync LCD8205 offers a relatively high level of installation versatility. Thus, the device can be installed in either portrait or landscape orientation and even tiled together for a video wall up to four displays high and four displays wide. The LCD8205 also sports automatic ambient light sensors that monitor changing light conditions to subtly optimize the brightness level to the environment.

Connectivity options of the LCD8205

Since we're talking about a device that should work 24/7 (at least in theory), the LCD8205 also features an advanced thermal protection system, as well as internal heat sensors for increased longevity. And be sure that this thing is bound to get hot pretty fast, as it has an overall power consumption level of around 880 Watts.

The LCD8205 offers a wide range of connectivity options, whether we're talking about RCA, HDMI, S-Video, Component Video, BNC, Audio, plus RS-232 for multiple monitor control and IR. Those customers who are already interested in purchasing the device from NEC should know that it will arrive at some point in December, but also that they'll require a specialized crew and quite a lot of space in order to install it, since this thing measures 1926 x 1137 x 150mm and weighs around 103 kilograms.
