It appears that NEC is going ahead with its habit of periodically releasing new commercial liquid crystal displays, in this case the newest addition to the MultiSync series, complete with environment friendliness.

NEC seems to be doing what most every other IT player is doing, that being introduce a product before it is actually ready to start selling.

In this case, it is not some new tablet or HTPC that is getting detailed, but the company's latest liquid crystal display.

The latest in the MultiSync series, it goes by the name of EX231Wp and is of the Full HD variety, though this is hardly a surprise nowadays.

What this means is that the 23-inch panel sports a native resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels and the 16:9 aspect ratio.

As far as hardware specifications go, the brightness is of 250 cd/m2, while the dynamic contrast ratio is of 25,000:1 (the typical, static ratio is of 3,000:1).

Connectivity can be established to systems via the available DVI and DisplayPort connectors, while an USB port provides additional functionality.

What's more, the LED backlighting makes sure that power consumption is minimal, 27-watt to be specific, optimized even further by the Intelligent Power Management (IPM) system and off timer, plus the ECO Mode and the carbon footprint meter (and cost meter).

Other features of the monitor include a human sensor, adjustable stand, Dynamic Video Mode (optimizes color, contrast and brightness in real time) and compliance with the Energy Star 5.0 and EPEAT Gold specifications. July 2011 is when sales will start, for $319.

"The ultra-slim MultiSync EX231Wp was created to give business users more functionality with the ability to easily implement web conferencing, small-scale digital signage, portability in between meetings and simple multi-screen setup," said Lynn Gu, Product Manager for NEC Display Solutions.

"We anticipate our customers traveling with their MultiSync EX231Wp to client meetings or using a mount solution to tile multiple monitors together. The unique capabilities this product presents are unlike anything else in our IT desktop lineup."
