Like practically all of its rivals, as well as every other company in the IT industry, NEC has been making sure to keep the market well supplied with newer and better display solutions, and the latest in its portfolio, known as the MultiSync E231W that was launched in the US about a week ago, has now come a step closer to reaching European stores.

Basically, as can be garnered from the name alone, the liquid crystal display (LCD) monitor measures 23 inches in diagonal and, predictably, uses the widescreen form factor.

Like most monitors unveiled this year, the solution has a native resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels, which means it is fully capable of rendering Full HD videos.

The product also employs LED technology for backlighting, and this, in itself, makes it highly energy efficient, to the point where it was even given EPEAT Gold and TCO 5.0 certifications.

Basically, the MultiSync E231W is 40% more efficient than an equivalent device with CCFL backlights, and this efficiency only adds to the appeal conferred upon it by the built-in carbon footprint meter.

Environment-friendliness is not the only worthwhile thing about the device, however. The E231W has a response time of 5ms, a maximum brightness of 250 cd/m2 and a contrast ratio of 1,000:1 (Dynamic Contrast Ratio/DCR of 25,000:1).

What's more, NEC threw in a 4-way ergonomic stand with 110mm height adjustment, swivel, pivot and tilt functions, for better comfort and increased productivity while working.

"NEC is committed to continuing its strong leadership role within the industry by contributing to a greener environment with an eco-friendly display in the quickly-growing 23-inch category," said Lynn Gu, Product Manager for NEC Display Solutions, when the device was launched in the US.

"The MultiSync E231W uses an LED-backlit panel to increase energy savings by up to 40 percent in comparison to conventional CCFL-backlit LCD monitors. This is especially beneficial for our business customers in this economic downturn,” the executive added.

Reportedly set to start shipping in September, the NEC MultiSync E231W will have a price of 299 Euro and a three-year warranty.
