Multi-line wireless handset for business employees already tested out

NEC may be best known, in some places, for its displays, but it definitely deals on many other things, such as, in this case, handsets.

The NEC ML440 Multi-line Wireless Handset is not the type of portable electronic device that consumers are found using all over the place.

Instead, it is designed for the UNIVERGE SV8100 communications server and its purpose is to act as a portable assistant for mid-sized business employees.

It operates in the 1.9 GHz wireless band, which makes the sound quality of communications better than what is possible on the 2.4 GHz or 5.8 GHz bands.

An illuminated color LCD, displaying a GUI for poorly lit environments, makes the handset easy to use anywhere, while an internal loudspeaker allows for hand-free calls.

Also, call management is simplified via advanced call logging.

The soft keys for hold, conference and transfer are other useful features.

Furthermore, NEC made it possible to program the ML440 to redirect calls to the office after a set amount of time.

All the above is available in a compact design and powered by a battery that can last for up to 20 hours of talk time and 200 hours of standby time.

“We’ve relied on NEC technology since 1998, so when it came time to upgrade our phone system we knew who to turn to for a wireless handset that would allow us to increase efficiency and survive rigorous daily use by our sales reps,” said Misty Gaston, VP and corporate secretary for Southern Wholesale Florist, where the beta testing has already been completed.

“Our 400 customers now feel like they are being heard and it allows our sales force to fill more orders in a shorter period of time. […] In our business if you drop a call or don’t get back to a customer fast enough, they call the next supplier on the list. As one of my top salespeople said, he wouldn’t do this job if we went back to the old system.”
