NEC has once again shown its mettle on the market for large, commercial displays, expanding the V Series with the addition of the V551 and V551-AVT, both of which measure 55 inches in diagonal.

Since a new month has begun, NEC decided to go ahead and launch a new pair of liquid crystal displays.

Added to the V Series of commercial panels, the V551 and V551-AVT (has an integrated tuner), as they are called, measure 55 inches in diagonal and support the 1,080p Full HD resolution (1,920 x 1,080 pixels).

They were created with lobbies, conference rooms, small-to-medium businesses and quick-service restaurants in mind.

On that note, they have a brightness of 350 cdm/m2, 10-bit color over HDMI, a contrast ratio of 3,000:1 and a sealed panel design with advanced cooling.

Furthermore, one will be able to find three display connectors (DVI-D, HDMI and DisplayPort) as well as an expansion slot with support for Open Pluggable Specification (OPS), for digital signage use.

“The introduction of the V551 completes the V Series lineup with a full range of sizes from 32-inches to 65-inches,” said Rachel Karnani, product manager for Large-Screen Displays at NEC Display Solutions.

“Users with lobby signage or digital menu boards will especially welcome the expansion slot and remote monitoring capabilities. V Series models are a great solution for customers that need a more rugged display at a frugal price.”

It should be noted that the newcomers come with the TileMatrix technology, which allows for installations of up to 100 displays.

Other specifications include 10W speakers and a 20% depth (thickness) reduction over the previous-generation NEC 55-inch displays.

Set to start shipping next month (November, 2011), the V551 and V551-AVT will cost $2,699 (2,025.21 Euro) and $2,899 (2,175.28 Euro), respectively.
