Measuring 23 inches, they possess both common and uncommon features

In about a month, there will be two new 23-inch NEC monitors up for sale, both featuring almost identical specifications, save for one: support for SpectraView II technology.

SpectraView II is a color calibration technology compatible with both Windows and Apple Mac operating systems.

It provides five picture modes and can load ICC profiles straight into the monitor, for accurate color representation.

Knowing that professional displays usually land on the desks of image and video designers, this is no small matter.

And now we may as well provide the other specifications that, NEC hopes, will reel in potential customers.

The Full HD resolution is a given (1,920 x 1,080 pixels) and the diagonal of 23 inches we have already mentioned. That makes the brightness the next most important trait.

We have to say it isn't legendary: 250 cd/m2. Then again, this being a professional display, it puts more stock on color reproduction than visibility. Besides, brightness doesn't have to be too high if the panel is not exposed to sunlight.

That said, even 250 cd/m2 can be unnecessarily high in the evenings, so NEC tossed in the AmbiBright ambient light sensor, which automatically adjusts the brightness according to ambient light intensity.

Moving on, NEC's MultiSync P232W, as the monitors are called, boast multiple video inputs (VGA, DVI-D, HDMI and DisplayPort) plus an USB 2.0 hub (2 up / 3 down) with DisplaySynch Pro.

Furthermore, two video signals can be processed at once, in Picture in Picture or Picture by Picture modes.

Other features include ICC Profile Emulation, GamaComp MD QA software support, IPS LCD technology (for wide viewing angles) and even touch input.

Finally, NEC's MultiSync P232W-BK and P232W-BK-SV (SpectraView II) are Energy STAR 5.0 and TCO 5.2-certified. Sales will start in July, for $569 (452 Euro) and $819 (651 Euro), respectively.
