NEC is bringing to the public a new competitor for the LCD market: MultiSync LCD-EA244WMi. It has a 24.1 inch diagonal and a maximum resolution of 1920×1200. At a first glance, you might think it's just another monitor but what really matters is packed inside. To start with, NEC focused its efforts on achieving a high-quality product that would be customer-friendly while in use and eco-friendly afterwards, when it’s discarded.
To do so, the screen has white LED backlight to maintain a low energy consumption and to get rid of the mercury that could cause environmental damage if the monitor is not disposed of correctly.
Another smart feature meant to reduce power consumption is the integration of proximity and motion sensors that turn off or dim the screen when you are away. It also has a photosensitive sensor that can adjust screen brightness depending on the amount of light in the room.
Backed up by an IPS (In-Plane Switching technology) panel, the viewing angle is of 178 degrees vertical or horizontal without any color distortion.
The MultiSync LCD-EA244WMi has a multitude of choices available when it comes to inputs. Whether it's DisplayPort, DVI-D, HDMI or D-Sub, this display has it. Add to that a set of 2W stereo speakers and you've got a monitor suited for work or for home entertainment. The choice is yours.
If you intend to buy one, you should know that shipping will start on January 15, 2013 and the price is rumored to be 45,000 Yen (536 USD, 327.5 GBP, 402 Euro).
