NEC is again releasing the things it is known for far and wide, namely displays, or one of them at least, expanding the X Series of professional-grade panels.
The new display that NEC has created is not some new monitor or TV, though most of its capabilities are similar.
Instead, it is a professional LCD intended for digital signage applications.
In other words, it will best serve public spaces or workspaces, depending on circumstance.
Ultimately, prospective buyers will have to figure out if the newcomer is suitable to their needs, whatever they are.
Still, NEC mentioned several scenarios where the 46-inch X462HB has a big chance of being useful, like video walls, drive-through menu boards, outdoor digital signage, etc.
Of course, video walls won't build themselves and just one panel won't be sufficient, so NEC implemented the TileMatrix technology, which allows up to a hundred X462HB to be combined.
“The improvement of NEC’s high-bright display addresses the concerns of customers who require a polarized solution,”
said Rachel Karnani, product manager for Large-Screen Displays at NEC Display Solutions.
“This type of model is extremely popular with retail and QSR customers requiring a bright display to accommodate high ambient lighting conditions or outdoor installations. The 1080p resolution is another upgrade that our customers will appreciate for content creation purposes.”
Indeed, Full HD support is present, as is a brightness of 1,200 cd/m2 (an AmbiBright sensor adjusts it based on ambient light) and a contrast ratio of 3,500:1.
Other specifications include RS-232C, Ethernet (RJ45), IR Remote and DDC/CI (multi-display control, e-mail notifications), plus DisplayPort, HDMI and DVI-D.
Finally, the panel works in both portrait and landscape orientations, has a 24/7 scheduler with real-time clock, consumes 320W of power and can be managed over the network.
December 2011 (next month) is when sales of the X462HB will start, for $3,899 (2,829 Euro).
