In October last year, NBC announced plans to reboot the hit detective series “Murder, She Wrote,” originally starring Angela Lansbury, with Octavia Spencer as lead. Deadline is now saying that all plans have been temporarily scrapped.

If you recall, shortly after the announcement, Lansbury herself spoke on the topic, saying she did not approve of the reboot because it would only kill the spirit of the original show. That might not have been entirely accurate, but it did stress just how difficult it was remake a cult series and make it actual, whilst not alienating fans of the original.

So, if you were looking forward for the new take on the story, it’s probably best to consider this new development in terms of NBC delaying the reboot indefinitely.

“Word is that NBC is not giving up on a Murder, She Wrote reboot. Because the original series was so beloved, I hear the network brass felt they could try approaching it in a different way, possibly with a new concept,” Deadline also says.

Whatever this new concept will be, it will probably not star Spencer, who is, right now, one of the hottest names on TV.
