Report says losing the ratings war has been the last nail on Lauer’s coffin

Since Ann Curry was let go from The Today Show without as much as being offered a chance to prove her worth, there’s been a lot of talk about how NBC bosses were considering firing Matt Lauer too, after he had Curry fired.

The New York Daily News claims to have it on good authority that the search for a replacement is officially on, now that Today took a serious hit in the ratings and chances of a rebound are unlikely, at least for the time being.

“They are rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic. They can shift things around, but it’s not helping,” the insider says.

“Their short-term solution is looking for new experts to replace some of the familiar faces that have been on the show forever. What they also need to do is hire someone to shake up everything and have the discussion about what to do with Matt,” adds the tipster.

The idea passed around right now is to let Lauer go, because executives have realized that he is the problem, and not someone else.

As for whether there’s any truth to this report, you know how that saying goes: only time will tell.
