The development team at Visual Concepts and publisher Take Two are delivering the first video related to the new NBA 2K15, which includes a look at the actual gameplay of the basketball simulation title, with Kevin Durant, the cover athlete, in the spotlight.

The footage is quite interesting because it aims to synthesize the appeal of the new title in under two minutes, which is hard to do even when using a high number of rapid cuts to various elements of the game.

The developers state, “NBA 2K15 hits the court with unprecedented life-like graphics, ultra-realistic NBA gameplay, and more. With over 5,000 new animations, NBA 2K15 will provide the most authentic and real gameplay a basketball simulation title has ever delivered. Adding to the authenticity is the addition of Ernie Johnson and 4x NBA World Champion Shaquille O’Neal who are featured in this trailer.”

The Yakkem trailer for NBA 2K15 features a soundtrack provided by the Red Hot Chili Peppers, performing “Suck My Kiss,” which is unusual for a basketball simulation series, as the music associated with the titles tends to be hip-hop and rap.

The gameplay footage looks pretty good but there are still some small issues with faces and with the way animations work, which the development team will probably be able to solve before launch.

NBA 2K15 is set to arrive on the PlayStation 4 from Sony, the PC, the Xbox One from Microsoft and last-gen consoles on October 7 of this year.

The game will use an entirely new engine for current-gen consoles and for the PC, and the company says that gamers will be able to experience a new take on basketball, although they should expect an evolution over the previous year rather than a revolution.

Kevin Durant will be heavily involved in the marketing of the new title and has been motion captured for the experience, and the soundtrack is set to be curated by Pharrell Williams, the creator of Happy, who has said that he aims to offer a diverse choice of music that can empower the gamer.

More details about the core gameplay of NBA 2K15 will be offered in the coming month.

Recently, EA Sports has announced that its rival NBA Live 15 experience will feature Damian Lillard from the Portland Trail Blazers on the cover and that it is also designed to improve the basketball sim genre by using the power of the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4.
