2K Games has just revealed a brand new and truly exciting feature available on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 editions of NBA 2K15, enabling gamers to create a custom player by scanning their own face.

The feature allows gamers to make use of the Kinect on the Xbox One home console or the PlayStation 4 camera, in order to have the game capture a full 3D model of their face, which they can then use for the creation of their very own custom player.

The company has released a nifty instructional video, detailing the feature that enhances the MyPlayer mode, one of the most popular ways to enjoy the basketball video games.

Step into the game

"In NBA 2K15, we're introducing our brand new face scan feature to put yourself in the game like never before. This technology doesn't just match what looks like you, but maps your entire face into small points and creates your features and look. Your time has come to scan," the publisher states.

The vid shows how easy it is to create a 3D scan of your head, and then go on and add the finishing touches to your player, which you can then take to stardom. The innovative way to immerse players into the game will no doubt prove to be insanely popular among the series' fans, enabling them to become the next virtual Michael Jordan.

The publisher has also released a more comedic promotional video, featuring Houston Rockets' James Harden, facing a situation that he can't handle himself. In order to scan his face along with his iconic beard, he calls for the help of the infamous "Beard Guru."

That's not all

The game does not simply take a picture of your face, but realizes a full-fledged 3D scan of your head. Of course, you'll require the specific hardware to do so, but owners of the Kinect-less Xbox One can be relieved to know that the motion sensor and camera peripheral will become available as a standalone package just before the game starts shipping.

The video shows that you have to hold the camera close to your face and then turn your head slowly, about 30 degrees to the left and right, and the entire process takes around 30 seconds if you don't encounter any unforeseen issues.

NBA 2K15 is slated for an October 7 release worldwide, headed to the PC, the Xbox One and Xbox 360 home consoles from Microsoft, and the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 computer entertainment systems from Sony.

Gamers who pre-order the game will get their hands on the KD MVP Bonus Pack, consisting of 5k in Virtual Currency, the Kevin Durant Throwback MyTEAM Card, two MyTEAM Card Packs, and MyPlayer Leg Sleeves, inspired by the ones Kevin Durant wears.
