Progress seems to be made, but we won't feel it until the whole job is done

A new NBA 2K is up on its feet, running back and forth around the game court, but it seems to be stumbling and falling around a lot. Performance issues have been reported by a lot of players of the NBA 2K10 and it seems this is a general problem with the game. The large number of complaints have led the developers to ask for assistance from the fans and report the problems on the official forum. All in all, it sounds like this is the beta test the game apparently never got.

Framerates seem to drop all over the game and in all kinds of situations. There are so many combinations that lead to bugs and they're so frequent that the game is robbed of almost all the fun. Just a few of these happen while the teams are coming out of timeouts in stadiums with spotlights or when loading an autosaved game before a shootaround/drill and then trying to play a game. They also take place when using a custom team in the NBA Finals or when playing the first game of the second round of the playoffs, both of which take place while in career mode.

Forum admin Ronnie James Dio also added a very specific new question in the “framerate” thread. “Does anyone on the 360 get framerate lag when NOT connected to the 2K Sports server with default camera settings? What teams are you playing?" This would indicate that at least they're really working on the problem and seem to be narrowing down the list of possible suspects. The thread has already exceeded 26 pages and the complaints will probably continue to gather.

A little bit of patience is required since such matters take a while to fix. The biggest problem will be actually identifying the problem, what part of the code leads to a loop somewhere or makes a certain directive run through to many sub-routines. Once this is over, they have to find a way to fix it and form a patch that can be applied to the game. Still, such mistakes shouldn't end up in a finished product.
