Rob Jones, one of the producers working on NBA 2K13, says that the lack of competition in the basketball simulation space is actually good for the series because it forces the developers to try and perform better than other sports sims.

He tells VG247 that, “believe it or not, we are now competing cross-sport. Now that we’re doing so well, we actually want to be the best sports game out there.”

NBA 2K13 has managed to deliver more than 5 million copies of the game to fans.

The game has lacked a competitor since Electronic Arts has canceled its own Elite and NBA simulations because of concern over the quality they would offer.

The publisher says the series will return next year with an improved engine and more options for basketball fans.
