NAVTEQ, one of the leading providers of maps, traffic navigation, location-based services and mobile advertising, has just announced that its NAVTEQ LocationPoint location-based mobile ad network, is now available in China

The company's service provides mobile handsets users local ads as they approach local businesses.

NAVTEQ's newly announced service offers Chinese users personalized features such as “click to map,” which is meant to guide them to the location of those advertisers.

LocationPoint provides advertisers with a dynamic new medium to reach on-the-go consumers with more relevant, high-impact advertisements,” said Chris Rothey, vice president, NAVTEQ.

The platform enables publishers to explore new revenue streams for their high-value content while adding value to the consumer experience.”

NAVTEQ LocationPoint works on any mobile platform and can be used with any connected portable navigation device or mobile phone application, regardless of the hardware.

Customers who wish to have their ads spread among the mobile consumers can choose between two APIs to join the network.

The LocationPoint REST API provides deeper customization options, while the recently WebApp API enables delivery of ads via HTML5 to iOS and Android apps.

Ad publishers can learn more about these APIs by accessing NAVTEQ Network for Developers website.

Among its publishers, the application includes some of the world's largest providers of location-based services.

In addition, NAVTEQ provides an ad ecosystem that includes a patented geo-facing ad platform to major handset makers, mobile operators, mobile application developers and automotive companies.

Apparently, a surge in mobile is to be expected in 2011, as Forrester Research suggests in its 2011 Mobile Trends study .

Forrester expects marketers around the world to finally allocate dedicated resources to mobile. In the US, for example, Forrester forecasts that marketing spend on mobile display ads and search will pass $1 billion in 2011.”
