Professional drivers partner up with EPA members to reduce pollution

Green products and nature-oriented campaigns are now to be brought to the attention of NASCAR racing fans, as NASCAR pilots decided to work together with representatives of EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) to help raise awareness with respect to environmental issues.

The terms of this newly formed partnership are as follows: from now on, whenever there is a race, NASCAR is to use products that have EPA's DfE (Design for Environment) label.

As one can easily guess, the idea is to get their fans see them using those particular products and thus convince them to make similar purchases in their day-to-day lives.

Given the fact that quite a lot of Americans are NASCAR fans and take a keen interest in watching such races, it is to be expected that this rather unexpected “alliance” between professional pilots and professional nature-care-givers will amount to a significant change in the US citizen's views and opinions on what he/she can personally do to help the environment.

In the past, NASCAR's genuine concern for the environment also lead to their decision to switch to Sunoco Green E15, an environmentally friendly type of fuel that is blended with 15 percent ethanol.

Sunoco Green E15 has been used by NASCAR drivers since the beginning of 2011's season. So far, it seems that switching to a different type of energy source didn't have any kind of effect on the thrill of the race. Quite the opposite: it made the pilots feel good about themselves for helping the environment.

As EnvironmentalLeader reports, NASCAR'S Pocono Raceway in Long Pond is now powered by a solar energy system, whose 40,000 photovoltaic modules will supposedly succeed in producing more than 72 million kilowatt hours between 2010 and 2030.

As if all of these weren't already more than enough, seeing how most companies and industries tend to step aside when it comes to actually doing something for the environment, it seems that NASCAR is also involved in a tree planting program and in a recycling campaign.

All in all, it's hats off to NASCAR drivers and their commitment to the natural world.
