14 DAY TRIAL // The NASA Ames Research Center, which some time ago developed and deployed the official NASA iPhone app, is reaching out to space-loving audiences with the announcement of a 2.0 release which brings a completely revamped interface, a stories section, weather forecast, and a feeds button, to name some of the new additions.
“Introducing the all-new NASA App 2.0 for iPhone and iPod Touch. This is the first major redesign since the initial launch in 2009,” says the NASA Ames Research Center. “Come explore with NASA in the palm of your hand.”
NASA App 2.0 features a completely rewritten UI, a News & Feature stories section, a Featured content section, as well as a Programs section.
A weather forecast is now included in sighting opportunities, and there’s a new image browser. Users now have the ability to favorite items and bookmark images, as well as a "Feeds" menu for filtering sections (a long-press feature lets you get info on the selected feed). Last, but not least, NASA App 2.0 has printing support.
The full set of features now available in the app includes:
• Current NASA mission information • Over 155,000 images (and growing everyday) • Latest news & feature stories (new) • On demand NASA Videos from around the agency • Live streaming of the NASA TV • Third Rock internet streaming radio • Launch information & countdown clocks • Sighting opportunities (visible passes for the ISS)- Now with weather forecasts • ISS and Earth orbiting satellite trackers • Featured content section (new) • Latest tweets from around the agency • Programs section (new) • Facebook® Connect and Integrated Twitter™ client for easy sharing • Map, information and links to all of the NASA visitor centers (new) • Favorites & image bookmarks (new) • Printing support (new) The software is compatible with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPod touch (3rd generation), iPod touch (4th generation) and iPad and requires iOS 5.0 or later.
