An official announcement from the American space agency indicates that the federal agency has just inaugurated a new, custom-produced Internet music radio station. The radio is called Third Rock – America's Space Station, and can be accessed here.

The station came online today, December 12, and will soon be made available to the public via the NASA iPhone and Droid mobile applications. The station is also linked on the NASA homepage.

“NASA constantly is looking for new and innovative ways to engage the public and inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers. This is another example of how the agency is taking advantage of these important communication tools,” NASA Office of Communications associate administrator David Weaver explains.

The station will primarily operate under a New Rock / Indie / Alternative format, allowing the younger generations to explore music that could make them more interested in space exploration, science and NASA.
