An official announcement from the American space agency indicates that the federal agency has just inaugurated a new, custom-produced Internet music radio station. The radio is called Third Rock – America's Space Station, and can be accessed here.

The station came online today, December 12, and will soon be made available to the public via the NASA iPhone and Droid mobile applications. The station is also linked on the NASA homepage.

“NASA constantly is looking for new and innovative ways to engage the public and inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers. This is another example of how the agency is taking advantage of these important communication tools,” NASA Office of Communications associate administrator David Weaver explains.

The station will primarily operate under a New Rock / Indie / Alternative format, allowing the younger generations to explore music that could make them more interested in space exploration, science and NASA.

we need as many science initiatives as possible;to me science is both religion and art-and we have instead of enhancing/the uk television is primarily obnoxious/pretext for control/the essential values are not getting through-we need to illuminate science in the hearts and minds of all age groups and to centre science in a community building context;I used to cycle tour-pitch tent-and though marvelling at the night sky-as like Thomas Carlyle said-"Why did'nt anyone teach me sky literacy-The UK is going through a bleak phase-theres not the schemes to propt innovation/in essense the professions like to earn off of disdavantage/to build prisons and fund police rather than to enhance lives.

NASA doesn't have anything better to spend their bucks? Uh, is this a "core function" of NASA to provide music to inspire people. Please, this is just garbage and we get to pay for it.
