NASA is joining Instagram and wants to share a lot of images with its followers.

The space agency has decided to finally launch an official Instagram profile, aiming to take its fans in an “out-of-this-world journey through images of Earth and beyond.”

“We're constantly looking to expand our social media portfolio to include tools that will best tell NASA's story of exploration and discovery,” said Lauren Worley, NASA Press Secretary.

NASA considers Instagram has some of the most passionate users who are always hungry for new and exciting photographs. And who can deliver such content if not NASA?

The agency wants to share pictures and videos both new and from the past. It seems the first posts will center on the scheduled launch of the Lunar Atmosphere and Dust Environment Explorer (LADEE).

NASA already has a strong presence on social media channels such as Twitter, Facebook, Google+, YouTube, Flickr and Foursquare to name just a few.
