Linux Networx announced that Computer Sciences Corporations (CSC) has made an order for a high performance cluster for NASA. The system will go to the NASA Center for Computational Sciences (NCCS) at the Goddard Space Flight Center where it's to be used in applications ranging from modeling climate variability to simulating astrophysical
phenomena.

It is designed to supplement the existing NCCS computing infrastructure with up to 40 TFLOPS. For now, they're getting a 128-node, 3.3 TFLOPS Supersystem with Intel dual-core Dempsey processors and 60 TB storage running on IBM's General Parallel File System.

"For over twenty years NASA Goddard has been at the forefront of adopting new supercomputing technologies and approaches," said Robert Ewald, CEO of Linux Networx. "We're honored to be selected as NASA Goddard's partner as they continue to advance their scientific computing capabilities."

Linux Networx is a company with a claimed 475 supercomputing clusters around the world and an impressive list of customers - including Boeing, Lockheed Martin, and various government agencies.
