Rumors on a Nokia handset that will soon be officially unveiled with the Symbian^3 operating system on board emerged quite a while ago, and now it seems that they are starting to pan out, as the “NN8-00r100-3G” XML file has just been spotted on Nokia's website. We already had the chance to take a look at the device, courtesy of a series of allegedly leaked photos with it, and now we can take a look at what might be considered the first official mentioning of the Nokia N8-00.

According to the file, the handset in question is the N8-00 model, and it will be powered by the Symbian^3 version of the platform, based on “the Symbian/3 string listed in the agent header,” as a recent post on Engadget notes. In addition to this, some other specifications of the upcoming phone were also extracted from the file, including the fact that its screen will boast a 360 x 640 pixel resolution. Based on the fact that the display has been rumored to be 3.5 inches in size, it is expected to be a similar nHD screen as the one present on the N97, Nokia's current flagship mobile phone.

However, when compared to the Nokia N97, the forthcoming handset should sport a capacitive touchscreen display, which is said to better match the finger friendly UI Symbian^3 it will land on the market with, and it seems that the N8-00 won't sport a QWERTY keyboard either, but only a soft one. On the connectivity side, the device should include Bluetooth 2.0 and Wi-Fi capabilities, as well as support for GPRS/EGPRS/EDGE/WCDMA/HSDPA networks. Other details on the new mobile phone can also be extracted from the file, including some info on its messaging features, browser, video capabilities and more, and you can check on them here.

Previous rumors on the device suggested that it might arrive with a 12-megapixel camera on the back, but no reference to it was present in the file. However, April is almost here, and, with that official announcement set to be made by the middle of the month, one should expect for more info on the new handset to emerge in the near future, so stay tuned for more.
