Today's computer systems are rapidly moving towards a different computing experience for the end-user, changing the way we interact with the machine. In that perspective, there are a number of new form factors and features for PCs, such as netbooks, tablets, all-in-one PCs that enable end-users to take advantage of a completely new way of interacting with their personal computers. On that note, N-trig and Fujitsu Microelectronics Europe (FME) have jointly announced a collaboration that is to provide both consumers and enterprise markets with a better pen and multi-touch computing experience that allows for multiple simultaneous touch points to be recognized.

“We are delighted to be working with N-trig and are committed to bringing our customers the very best technological differentiators to help fuel innovation and development. N-trig has an excellent reputation as a provider of innovative pen and multi-touch devices,” said Dirk Weinsziehr, VP of Marketing and Engineering at FME. "Fujitsu offers its leading-edge technology and related assets to all custom IC users. A worldwide support programme is fully prepared and proven.”

According to N-trig, its DuoSense technology, which is designed to deliver a combination of pen and multi-touch capabilities and is already available on the Dell Latitude XT/XT2 and the HP TouchSmart tx2, has been designed using the Fujitsu extensive silicon technology solutions. The current collaboration between the two companies is to spawn a new chip that can deliver better multi-touch capabilities, while also enabling system makers to develop new types of computer systems. This next-generation chip will deliver increased processing performance while reducing the mechanical footprint.

“Fujitsu’s cutting-edge technology enables us to substantially increase our performance and maintain our leadership position in the industry, which in turn is driving superior interactions with Hands-on computing,” said Yaki Luzon, VP R&D and Engineering, N-trig. “We are committed to continuing to strengthen and advance our supply chain as the Hands-on computing market expands with stronger computer offerings from OEMs and new creative applications from ISVs that are attracting noteworthy consumer and enterprise attention.”

N-trig's next-generation chip is expected to provide system builders and users with support for ten or more simultaneous touch points at very high refresh rates, the company said in a statement.
