Samsung has been laying low tablet-wise in the last period

IFA 2014 came and went, but one of the world’s biggest tablet manufacturers, namely Samsung, didn’t have much to show for in the slate category.

The Korean tech giant’s presentation at the event focused on the new flagship Galaxy Note 4, the Gear S smartwatch, and the new VR headset.

In terms of tablets, however, Samsung failed to impress. The only thing coming out of the Korean mammoth was a rebranded version of the Galaxy Tab 4 8.0 tablet.

What Samsung did here was to take the 8-inch tablet and add to it the “Active” moniker in order to highlight the addition of some rugged properties.

The failure to bring anything impressive might be explained by the fact that, prior to IFA 2014, a few months earlier, Samsung had launched its latest flagship devices, the Samsung Tab S tablet duo – which take advantage of AMOLED screen technology.

Anyway, it appears that Samsung is back to business as far as tablets are concerned. An unidentified device codenamed SM-T240 has been spotted in Zauba, the Indian database that tracks product imports and exports (as seen at My Samsung Phones).

The slate is a 7-incher, but the filing says only “Sample Samsung Tablet,” so we’re pretty short on details at the moment.

Of course, we can always hypothesize, so here it goes. Samsung’s low-cost tablet bunch, the Galaxy Tab 4, disappointed a little bit when it came out, because, as it turned out, it wasn’t as cheap as everybody had expected.

What if Samsung is looking to remedy that, and to that end, the SM-T240 could turn out to be a super affordable slate that might sell under $100 / €78?
