Whatever the viewfinder, the full-frame camera may or may not be mirrorless

Not long ago, we brought you the D5300 and 1 AW1 photo cameras from Nikon, and now we are picking things up with a certain photo and video capture device that still has no name.

Well, it probably has a name. We just don't know it, and neither does anyone else apparently, not even the folks from Nikon Rumors.

The people there did find pretty much everything else of importance though, like the full specifications, at least as far as anyone can guess.

Some have been confirmed, others have been surmised. The truth is probably in the middle or close enough to the rumored list for the differences not to matter.

The ones people seem to be sure of are thus: a standard F-mount, pentaprism viewfinder (so this isn't a mirrorless camera after all), a new special edition Nikkor 50mm f/1.8G lens, physical controls, and a weight of 765 grams / 1.68 pounds.

Nikon calls the camera a “hybrid,” but no one seems to know exactly why, and we might have to wait 1-3 weeks to find out.

Anyway, that's it for the “confirmed” specs. The assumed specifications are these: Nikon FM2 like design, 16.2MP 36 x 23.9 full frame sensor (same as in the Nikon D4), 2016-pixel RGB image sensor, SD memory card, 3D color matrix metering II, 9-cell framing grid display, 100-12,800 native ISO (expandable to ISO108,200), and 5.5 fps for up to 100 shots.

Finally, an Expeed 3 processor (for fast photo storage and editing) should be included somewhere inside, and the Nikon camera supposedly has a 3.2-inch screen (LCD), which is large enough for a clear preview.

Nikon may or may not reveal the newcomer at PDN PhotoPlus show in New York, next week. Even if it puts it off, the product should still be out in time for the winter holidays.
