HP hasn’t said anything about a new Chromebook 11 model

Shopping for electronics can sometimes bring about unexpected surprises, some bigger than others. A Reddit user visited his local electronics store in Australia searching for an HP Chromebook 11 to purchase.

He did find an HP Chromebook 11 alright, it just wasn't the standard one you’d normally expect to find in a retail location. It appears this lucky Aussie stumbled upon an announced model of the device.

The laptop is shown in a video and by the looks of it, it's pretty evident we're dealing with a different model altogether. The device seems to be a smaller version of the HP Chromebook 14 and lacks distinctive color bar usually located on the lid and the colored pads on the bottom.

This particular device goes by model number HP Chromebook 11-2001TU, and if you live in Australia, you might be lucky enough to get one too. In case you are able to identify the particular store the device was acquired from, you should know there are still 20 models available for purchase. The model number from the old HP Chromebook 11 is 11-1101.

The device arrives with an 11.6-inch LED display, Exynos 5 Dual processor, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and 16GB of internal storage.

But before getting all excited about HP’s purported unannounced new Chromebook model, we should consider another theory too. The mysterious device might as well turn out to be a simple re-design HP hasn't bothered to advertise that much.

Anyway, the insides of this new Chromebook seems to be pretty much the same, except our Aussie user claims the variant he bought feels heavier and apparently uses a different display type.

It is still unclear why HP saw fit to swap out the screen of the Chromebook 11 and re-design the notebook to make it look more like the larger HP Chromebook 14, but given that the machine is already available for purchase in some parts of the world, we could end up seeing the laptop make an appearance on other markets as well.

Last year, the HP Chromebook 11 was pulled from sale due to a problem related to overheating chargers. Back then, HP and Google advised users to stop using the charger and promised free replacements.

Not long after, Google started shipping the free chargers, plus a letter of apology in which the HP Chromebook 11 team apologizes for the inconvenience. So, it’s safe to assume that the redesign has nothing to do with the pesky chargers woes.
