A mystery animal carcass has been located in South Africa and locals have speculated that the remains belong to an animal species.

According to Times Live, a veterinarian examining the carcass has concluded that it was once a baboon. The photo of the creature, which is also posted above this news blog, has circled the world, with many experts weighing in on what the animal could be.

"What I saw is not uncommon. [...] Anyone could see it was baby baboon," Dr. Magdalena Braum of The Crags Veterinary Clinic explains.

The animal, also described as "half man, half monkey" was located in a nature reserve and handed over to SA National Parks officials.
