A mysterious woman dressed in black cloths from head to toe made it on the news after photos and videos showing her journeying across the US reached the online community and went viral.

The woman set out on this journey a couple of months ago, when she left Alabama. Over the following weeks, she was spotted and photographed in several states, among which Tennessee, Georgia, Kentucky, Ohio, and Virginia.

The people who chanced to cross paths with her say that, while on the road, the woman was not exactly what some would call friendly. Thus, she did not seem to like talking to those who approached her, and much preferred walking in silence.

Besides, word has it that, whenever offered accommodation or food, the woman simply refused and then resumed walking. Unfortunately, it looks like some people had trouble coming to terms with the fact that all she wanted was some solitude.

Thus, media reports say that, this past Wednesday, the woman found herself surrounded by several dozen curious folks who were desperate to learn more about her and her journey. Police officers had to intervene and protect her.

“I wish people would mind their own business,” the woman reportedly told a police officers after being rescued. According to a reports in the Sydney Morning Herald, this unfortunate incident occurred in the city of Winchester in Virginia.

The same source tells us that the woman in black is 54-year-old Elizabeth Poles, a US army veteran and mother of two, who lost her husband in 2008 and her father only last year. Interestingly enough, it looks like the city of Winchester, where she grew up, was this woman's destination.

Now that she has apparently completed her journey, the woman, who was once a patient of Veteran Affairs hospitals, just wants to be left alone. “She has expressed to officers that she wants to be left alone and is asking that the public respect her wishes,” a spokesperson for the local police said.

“The Winchester Police Department wants local residents to know that she will be part of the community and to respect her privacy if you see her in the area,” the spokesperson reportedly went on to explain in an interview with the press this past Wednesday.

According to the woman's brother, Raymond Poles, the woman left Motts, Alabama, about two months ago, on a Sunday, after attending service. “When my wife and I picked her up [from church], she shaved her head and she was asking me where can I buy long black robes. That’s when she started traveling,” the brother said in a statement.
