It appears that the unannounced Samsung Galaxy Q is scheduled for release in Canada via Rogers, as the carrier has already introduced the device onto its upcoming Smartphone Lite category.

However, this is not the recently rumored Galaxy Q monster with 5.3-inch display and dual-core processor that is expected to make its appearance at the 2011 IFA, in early September.

Rogers' Samsung Galaxy Q seems to be just an entry-level Android-based smartphone that will be launched once the “Back-to-School” promotion starts, along with other interesting mobile phones, including the Nokia X7 and the LG Phoenix.

Furthermore, it appears that the phone will be delivered with a mid-size 3.2-inch capacitive touchscreen and will be aimed at Android fans that use their phones as typing machines.

The phone comes with a full slide-out QWERTY keyboard and is allegedly running Google's Android 2.3 (Gingerbread), but this has yet to be confirmed.

The upcoming Galaxy Q is shown within Rogers' training guide for the “Smartphone Lite” category, which has yet to make its debut in Canada.

According to Rogers' internal documents, devices that are included within the “Smartphone Lite” category will be available on voice-only plans for maximum device subsidy. It seems that these smartphones are best paired with the 10/100 MB Data plan.

The Canadian carrier states that the “Smartphone Lite” will initially feature four devices, such as Nokia X7, Samsung Galaxy Q, LG Phoenix and Sony Ericsson Xperia Pro.

Rogers also mentions that the “Smartphone Lite” category will be permanent and that more devices will be added to the lineup.

While there's no information regarding the Galaxy Q release date or price, it appears that the carrier is preparing the smartphone for the “Back-to-School” promotion, which means that the phone will be retailed at an affordable price.
