While the Martin Scorsese flick, 'The Departed', with its star-studded cast and its brilliant direction is wrecking havoc among critics and moviegoers, one of the main stars that appears in it is forced to lay back on the promotion tour and to recuperate at home.

Jack Nicholson, who stars in what has been called by many 'undoubtedly, the movie of the year', alongside Matt Damon, Mark Whalberg and Leonardo DiCaprio, has missed the last couple of premieres in the major cities on account of a mysterious neck injury.

According to reports in the media, the veteran actor strained his neck last week, when he took young model Paz de la Huerta to the New York premiere of 'The Departed'. With no information as to what might have caused the injury, reports indicate that the star retired to his home shortly after the big opening and was never seen after that.

A friend of Nicholson's told a newspaper that Nicholson is now, quote, 'bedridden, pulling a muscle in his neck... we don't know exactly what is wrong, but something is wrong with his neck'. Jack's long time publicist did not return any calls seeking comment so, this far, nobody knows for how long he will be ditching his co-stars on the promotion of 'The Departed'.
