So the first-ever teaser trailer for the highly anticipated “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” dubbed by fans the most anticipated movie of the decade, was released online. Since then, speculation has been rampant online as to whoever is doing voiceover on it, with many people convinced that they have finally have proof of Benedict Cumberbatch’s involvement.

This is a rumor that started when the actor would not directly answer in the negative the question of whether he was appearing in the movie, asked randomly on a red carpet. Shortly after, countless “insiders” came forward to claim they had solid tips from their on-set sources, confirming that Cumberbatch was, indeed, in the movie.

From here on, the rumor mill did the rest: some claimed that he was playing the villain, others that he was playing a lead, others that he would only make a cameo. What they had in common was the fact that Cumberbatch would appear in the film.

For what it’s worth, Benedict denied the rumor when it got out of hand, but that’s not stopping the fans from believing it. So, when the first trailer came out, they decided that it was his voice in the voiceover and that he was most likely the dude in the hoodie, holding that unfamiliar-looking Lightsaber.

On the other hand, various reliable film outlets have confirmed that the narrator is Andy Serkis, whose role is being kept a secret (which probably means he’s the villain).

There’s also this to consider: Cumberbatch was villain in “Star Trek Into Darkness,” so chances of J.J. Abrams’ casting him as villain again are slim to none. He knows that the fans would never forgive him for it, not when he already got this much flak for thinking to direct both franchises.

Even so, people online are still convinced that’s Cumberbatch in the “Star Wars” trailer. Give it a good listen and see if they’re just imagining things they want to hear, or if they have good reason to suspect some kind of secret Cumberbatch cameo.
