Six new versions

The most sadistic and efficient hackers lurking in today's cyberspace are developing one of the most devastating worms, which could spread infinitely from one PC to another or until it there are no more targets to acquire.

It seems that this worm is based on versions of MyTob, which were launched last week; their structure points out that these versions might be systematically developed, announce security experts.

Since June 1, six versions of the worm have been tracked by security companies, such as Symantec, and the total number of versions currently exceeds 100.

"The latest versions are numbered, as if there're part of a commercial program", says Carole Theriault, security consultant at the UK branch of Sophos.

What is known for sure is that hackers are putting a lot of effort into developing the worm, and the purpose of launching a large number of threats, each one being different from the other, is to find the most devastating one which will be the core of the new super-worm.

MyTob was developed on a structure similar to the one of worms like MyDoom and Rbot, and looks like the creation of a group of hackers called Hellbot.

MyTob's viral activity from last week represented 35% of the number of worms that roamed the net, announces MeesageLabs.
