A month ago, Google debuted a revamped social search. The feature, which taps into your social graph to find results that may be relevant to you, is now an integral part of Google Search. It also introduced more options for connecting other accounts to your Google Profile.

Turns out that, while it officially only supports six other services, more are tested or at least have some groundwork done.

James Slater realized that even though only six services were listed, there may be more. Google has a numeric ID associated with each service. Flickr for example has the ID 18.

So Slater tried to determine if replacing the ID manually would return different services. Sure enough, it did. In total, he found nine different services that may be supported by Google, or at least have been tested, but which are not listed by default.

The products not listed are MySpace, Hi5, Microsoft, Aol, Foursquare, Digg, Plaxo, Wretch and GitHub.

Not all of the numeric IDs came up with a result. And, the ones that did return a result, didn't always work properly. But it does show that Google has at least tried to support a lot more services than it currently does.

Of course, their existence may not mean anything, they could simply be relics of services that Google tried to add but later abandoned. It could be that Google is still working on it, or it may be that it's planning to roll out support for more services in the future.

For now, most of the services actually work, in the sense that links are added to your profile. If this also means that Google is getting some data from those accounts or using them for Social Search is anyone's guess.

But it is interesting to see what Google is or has been testing so far. With all of the activity surrounding Google Profiles lately, it may be that this is all part of Google's big plans for its "social layer." Or it could simply be something completely unrelated. [via SEL]
