Coming with customization options

EA Play, one of the more casual-oriented labels of Electronic Arts, has announced that the release of MySims Racing for the Nintendo Wii and the DS is set to take place this week.

The game allows players to take on the role of racers at the beginning of their careers who ultimately end up in the adequately named Speedville where they can take on MySims rival racers. The game will cost 34.99 dollars on the Wii and 24.99 on the DS.

MySims Racing has been designed so that it can offer a lot of customization options related to the engines and the bodies of the karts used while also offering all racers the chance to change the way the race goes by using power ups like a heat seeking watermelon (a blue shell with a twist?).

Tim LeTourneau, who is the general manager of the MySims franchise, declared that “The MySims have had many adventures and conquered many challenges, but for the first time we find them behind the wheels of their own customized vehicles. MySims Racing combines the fun and quirky MySims spirit our fans love with fast-paced action-packed arcade racing. We can’t wait for players to take this game for a spin.”

MySims is part of a wide ranging strategy from Electronic Arts designed to bring its biggest franchises, like sports games and the Sims series, to the consoles with the biggest install base in the gaming world, the Wii and the DS handheld.

Unfortunately, the company has adopted a tactic of pretty much taking the best selling videogame in a genre and just slapping an Electronic Arts label on it. For example, MySims Racing seems to be taking quite a lot of cues from the best selling Mario Kart, which also has a Wii and a DS version, adding the Sims label to it.
