Canonical announced on April 24th, in a security notice, that a new MySQL update for its Ubuntu 8.04 LTS, Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, Ubuntu 11.04, and Ubuntu 11.10 operating systems is now available, fixing multiple vulnerabilities.

According to Canonical, multiple security issues were discovered in MySQL and this update includes new upstream MySQL versions to fix these issues.

MySQL was updated to version 5.1.62 in Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, Ubuntu 11.04 and Ubuntu 11.10. In Ubuntu 8.04 LTS it has been updated to version 5.0.96.

In addition to security fixes, the updated MySQL packages contain bugfixes, new features, and possibly incompatible changes.

The issues can be corrected by updating your system and, in general, a standard system update will make all the necessary changes.
