Whatever funky singer Lady GaGa wears is bound to make the headlines, it has been said, on account of her newly established fashion icon status. However, even for most die-hard fashionistas, her latest choice in terms of accessory, a floral teacup and saucer, was somewhat baffling. Luckily, the singer has explained it in an interview on Capital FM breakfast show, as the Daily Mail informs.

“My tea cup is so famous. I yelled at her today I said you’re stealing my thunder go to bed.” GaGa, real name Stefani Joanne Germanotta, jokes. The media’s obsession with everything she wears (or does not wear, in the case of pants) is at times ridiculous, the singer further says. Sometimes, she does stuff like that just to feel more like home wherever she goes, as is the case with the now-famous teacup.

“You know now it’s a gimmick and it’s just my tea cup. That’s my tea cup that I like to take everywhere it makes me feel at home. It’s become a celebrity. I asked the people I work with to try to make me feel at home. I miss home sometimes and I drink a lot of tea so instead of drinking from paper I ask for china.” Lady GaGa says of why she’s been seen recently posing with the colorful and highly unlikely accessory.

Making her feel more at home might be the main idea behind the floral teacup, but it still has managed to cause quite a stir with glossy magazines and in the blogosphere. While most hail Lady GaGa as a true fashion icon who is not afraid to break all boundaries to keep herself at the top spot, there are, of course, those who say she’s only doing it for the attention. From what sources say, it could just be that GaGa’s love of the cup be as genuine as she professes.

“She kicked up a stink and demanded someone get her cup and saucer back. She wouldn’t drink out of anything else. It just looked like any other cup and saucer to me and said ‘Made in China’ on the bottom. It seemed a lot of fuss over nothing.” an unnamed source was telling The Sun a couple of days ago, when GaGa reportedly forgot her teacup and saucer at a London restaurant and caused a scene when she realized it was missing.
