My Own Dad Betrayed Me, Rihanna Says

In the aftermath of the February 8 incident, when Rihanna was a victim of assault at the hands of then-boyfriend Chris Brown, and when the media was grabbing at straws, the singer’s father, Ronald Fenty, was one of the few close sources willing to talk. In doing so, he betrayed her confidence by turning his back to her and going to the media, Rihanna says in a recent interview cited by ContactMusic.

Rihanna has not had any contact with her father for about a year, the singer explains, so the interviews he gave shortly after the assault were all lies. He told the media he was trying to make contact with her and could not because someone had full control over her, but it was not true, because he never even attempted to get word through to her. Because of this and other things, Fenty did to spoil the relationship, Rihanna has no intention right now of seeking a reconciliation, she says.

“He kind of did something that was really upsetting. He turned his back on me and went to the media. He got paid to talk about stuff – all these little interviews he was doing after the whole situation in February. I hadn’t spoken to him and he was speaking as though we did. It was so disappointing to me,” Rihanna explains, as cited by ContactMusic.

When asked about what it was exactly that caused the rift between them, Rihanna begins by saying that she never even imagined her father would let things go so far. They initially had a fallout when he got drunk on tour and embarrassed himself, and she was forced to send him home because he needed to be “away” for a while. After that, he completely refused to return her calls and made himself unavailable to her every time she would reach out.

“I didn’t think it was going to be a thing where we weren’t talking to each other. I just thought: ‘You just need some time away right now.’ Every time I tried to call him after that, that was it. I contacted him on numerous occasions – father’s day, his birthday – and just nothing. It’s funny that you’re saying he’s trying to reconcile. He has my number,” the hitmaker further explains.
