One of the greatest technical innovations in cinematography is, without a doubt, the steadicam, which allows the director to do a moving shot in one swift, continuous shot. Versatile and extremely helpful, the steadicam has been used in both television and the movies.

Above is a fitting tribute to it.

Created by camera operator Garrett Brown in the ‘70s, the steadicam has been used in iconic films like “Rocky,” “The Shining,” “Goodfellas” and “Fight Club,” but also in hit television series like “ER.”

“The steadicam shot – or ‘steadishot’ – has become one of the most dynamic and exciting forms of cinematography and is one of the most engaging visual techniques in a filmmaker's storytelling arsenal,” Larry Wright, who created the tribute above, writes.

“I was inspired to make this homage to the art of steadicam cinematography when browsing the database of ‘top’ clips over at steadishots.org, which are rated by the community. After locating what sources I could from the top 50 or so, I decided to stick with the order presented on the site (accurate as of March 1, 2013),” he adds.

The result is a video that takes you on a journey back and forth in time, revisiting scenes from some of the most memorable films of our times. Enjoy!
