The first attempt at teleportation took place in the UK and, as the video above will confirm, it was a huge success. The event promoted the rentals release of “Star Trek Into Darkness,” J.J. Abrams’ second “Star Trek” movie.

Illusionist Scott Penrose teamed up with streaming service blinkbox to make this happen.

As the video shows, they also required some help from a bunch of Trekkies / assistants, a few fans willing to be experimented on, and what looked nothing like the original transporter in “Star Trek.”

The entire thing is described as “cunning teleportation trickery.” The explanation for this particular phrase can be found at the end of the video, which also offers the key to the illusion.

“Star Trek Into Darkness” stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, and Benedict Cumberbatch, and was released earlier this year. See here for my full “Star Trek Into Darkness” review.
