The biggest challenge was in making something that doesn’t exist believable

In life, you take a lot of things for granted, and this probably applies to HBO’s hit series “Game of Thrones” as well. The video above shows how the dragons in season 3 were made.

German VFX crew Pixomondo faced the huge challenge of making something that doesn’t exist truly believable.

They had to come up with a good design for a “teenage dragon” when they had nothing to do their research on and, more importantly, create a convincing movement for each of the three.

Then, there was the challenge of making the dragons’ interactions with the actors seem natural, unforced. As you will see, they used tennis balls on sticks for the dragons’ heads, to offer actors a point of reference in space.

If you’re a fan of the series and want a behind the scenes look into how all that magic happens, do watch the video.
