Agile Web Solutions signals that 1Password version 2.9.18 fixes “a problem that could cause secure information to be logged in clear text in a few rare cases during WiFi syncing.” The company advises users of its password managing app to “securely delete ~/Library/Logs/1Password folder” following the installation of this update.
Although not mentioning it as a “security” issue, Agile Web Solutions specifically states that the problem in question could “cause secure information to be logged in
clear text” (emphasis ours), therefore become readable. The company also stresses that it has reduced application bundle size, something that's always welcome.
An additional two bug fixes are mentioned in the release notes for the latest version of 1Password. Particularly, Agile claims to have also fixed a problem with syncing that could cause an item to be sent from iPhone repeatedly. If you've been experiencing this issue, the 2.9.18 update should fix it. Lastly, the new version of the app adds several workarounds to fix crashes in the Conflict Resolver window.
For those who are not very familiar with the software, 1Password is a password manager and form filler for Mac OS X and iPhone. The solution is designed to remember all the online passwords that a user inserts on any web page or form, anytime, by using one single (master) countersign. The desktop version of 1Password integrates directly into most browsers (Firefox, Camino, OmniWeb, DEVONagent, NetNewsWire, as well as Apple's own Safari), and sports built-in, anti-phishing and keylogger protection. Using the app, Mac owners can easily manage hundreds of passwords with one key.
On the mobile side,
1Password for iPhone and iPod touch is on track for a few supplements as well,
according to its iTunes page. Included is a database Backup and Restore option, some changes to the Tabs, a monospaced font to better display password values, a new way of displaying password values, and a more natural view sequence after the new Wallet item is added.
1Password for Mac OS X starts at $39.95 – Single User license. A Family license costs $59.95. 1Password is licensed on a per-person basis (a single license can be used by one person on as many Macs as they can afford), in order to reduce 1Password's total cost of ownership.
