The fourth revision of Musix GNU/Linux was announced by Marcos Guglielmetti, and it contains a large set of applications for artists. It is made up of only free software that are intended for music production, audio and video editing, graphic design and much more.

The Musix GNU/Linux 1.0 R4 edition is based on the stable version 1.0 R3. Musix is based on two popular distributions, Knoppix and Debian Etch, with all the latest versions of the important applications. This distro is based on the Linux kernel version 2.6.23-rt1.

On the Live-DVD you will find new additions, like rakarrack (guitar effects processor), lash 0.5.4, azr3-jack 1.0.3 (a hammond organ emulator, that was ported from a VSTi), jack-keyboard 2.5, a drumkit called "asma davul" and much more. KDE received a facelift and, consequently, it's looking much better now.

Some of the old applications were updated, like Ardour 2.1, Rosegarden 1.7.0, Jackd 0.109.2, Lmms 0.3.2 and many others. The default desktop environment used for the Live DVD is KDE but, if you prefer something lighter, you could try IceWM with Rox, or even Fluxbox.

Besides the artistic applications, a large set of general use software is included, like Clam, the Iceweasel web browser, aMSN, OpenOffice, etc. For graphic design, DTP and CAD, you can use InkScape, The GIMP, Scribus and QCad.

If you need tools for video editing, you will surely enjoy Cinelerra, Kino, QDVDAuthor and for just watching or listening to music, you can use Amarok, VLC, Xine, Mplayer and XMMS.

Other features include the large language support of OpenOffice (75 languages), educational applications, full printer and scanner support and a lot of games. Also, you can enjoy desktop effects provided by compiz and beryl.
