If you thought that music was loud at rock concerts, you've clearly not attended a UB40 gig before. Several fans that attended a gig the band played on Monday, April 14, in Cambridge, are saying that they were actually injured by the loud music.

According to a report by NME, a number of people in attendance complained that the music was so loud they felt physical discomfort. Some said that it was even “altering heart rhythms.”

Fan Anna Webster thought attending the UB40 performance was going to be a fun night out but changed her mind when she left the concert early with a bleeding ear. “It was just horrendously loud - the bass was vibrating even in the foyer,” she told the press.

She added that “There were so many people walking out because they couldn't deal with it. It was vibrating through your whole body - it was actually altering heart rhythms.” Doctors later discovered that her bleeding ear was caused by a perforated ear drum.

Her description of the concert is backed up by another fan, Angela Paffertt, who claims that “The bass crashed into you like a Steam train. I had a pain in my chest.”

Following this wave of complaints, the band has since came forward and apologized for the volume of its music. It also tried to patch things up by offering free tickets to other gigs for those who were disturbed by the loud music.

A spokesman for the band has confirmed that “the vast majority of people were not affected” and that the issue was brought to the attention of the sound engineer tasked with handling the music during the band's performances.
