Vevo, the music video site venture, is finally crossing the Atlantic and being launched in the UK, more than a year after hitting the US. Brits will now get access to the entire catalogue via the Vevo website not only through YouTube.

The site also boasts that it will strive to offer content and an experience catered specifically to the UK audience and says more features and tweaks are coming in the next few months, this is just the initial release.

"Before today, U.K. music fans had access to one corner of VEVO’s far-reaching platform, experiencing North America’s leading music video and entertainment service through our syndication partnership with YouTube," Vevo wrote in a blog post.

"Now, VEVO’s entire spectrum of high quality music programming is available in the U.K. Our programming doesn’t just include music videos; fans have access to original series, live events and more through VEVO.co.uk or via VEVO mobile, which includes Android, iPhone, iPod touch and iPad, just to name a few," it announced.

Vevo is a joint venture of two major record labels, Universal Music Group and Sony Music Entertainment, with funding from the Abu Dhabi Media Company and infrastructure and technical expertise provided by YouTube.

Vevo has music videos along with original content for artists from more than just the two music labels, having struck a deal with EMI as well. It boasts 30,000 videos from 8,000 artists and the lineup is constantly expanding.

For the UK launch, the site plans to premiere videos from Tinchy Strider, Tom Vek, Chapel Club and The Pierces as well as debut some interviews and live performances, exclusive to Vevo.

The UK launch was initially planned for 2010, but it took longer than expected. In fact, the announcement warns that Vevo in the UK is still in the testing phase and that more features are planned once the site is up and running.
