The other day, the first post-Idol Adam Lambert single, called “Want,” leaked online. Although the American Idol runner-up insisted that it was not off his upcoming album but merely something that he had once lent his vocals for, the CEO of Hi Fi Recordings is telling Billboard that not only is “Want” Adam’s almost completely, but that an entire album will also drop this summer.

John Hecker, CEO of the aforementioned label, is saying that “Want” is lifted off an album that Lambert recorded and co-wrote before his “Idol” days. The fact that the singer claims that he only sang on one track – “Want” – and was not involved in the creative process at all means nothing, Hecker says, as neither does that RCA is labeling the upcoming material as Lambert’s first. The truth of the matter is that Adam already has an album completed, and Hi Fi Recordings and Wilshire Records are going to bring it to light.

“The music’s amazing. There are some uptempo [songs], there’s some that rock a little more, and there are some songs on the same tip as ‘Want.’ It’s a real album that’s coming out, not just a conglomerate of a bunch of songs. This is all original material – as a matter of fact, Adam wrote a lot of it.” Hecker tells Billboard. Moreover, Adam was involved throughout most of the process, dropping in by the studio before the American Idol finale to see how things were progressing. “He was in the Wilshire Records studio right before the finale actually, and he was blown away by the material.” Hecker adds.

Hi Fi Recordings did not notify RCA, the label with which Lambert is now signed for his first album, because Hecker did not consider such a move necessary. Neither does Lambert’s former label see the harm in releasing the material before the one from RCA drops. This, of course, comes to contradict what Adam himself said the other day, only hours after the leak – namely, that the music that had surfaced was old and he only lent his voice because he was strapped for cash, and that it in no way reflected his sound.

“Back in 2005 when I was a struggling artist, I was hired as a studio singer to lend my vocals to tracks written by someone else. I was broke at the time and this was my chance to make a few bucks, so I jumped at the opportunity to record for my first time in a professional studio. The work I did back then in no way reflects the music I am currently in the studio working on. I’m thrilled to be working with some of today’s hottest songwriters and producers and can’t wait for people to hear what my music really sounds like.” Adam said in a statement.

As fans must surely know, Adam Lambert is now working with producer RedOne, who is also the man behind Lady Gaga’s hits, among many.
