That means it can be connected to two devices at once

Not long ago, it was rare enough to see routers with support for two wireless bands instead of just one, and there weren't any other products that could communicate over both, save very few exceptions. LG has just created a speaker ready to join the ranks of those exceptions.

Said speaker is called LG Music Flow Wi-Fi. Or perhaps we should use the plural form, since there are four of them in the new line.

Nevertheless, they all possess dual-band Wi-Fi support. Only unlike routers, it's not so that devices may connect to the web through it.

Instead, the use of both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz wireless bands serves to enable the speaker, or speakers, to be connected to two devices at the same time.

So you could, say, have the speaker permanently linked to your computer but allow the smartphone to connect to it as well. Advanced Wireless Network optimizes bandwidth allocation all the while.

The three LG Music Flow Wi-Fi Series speakers

There are three of them with different sizes and power output, plus a fourth one called LG NP8350, which has a built-in battery. LG says this is the first wireless speaker with a built-in battery to leave its labs.

Each speaker can match the environment based on the position, and can stream music from an LG BP550 Streaming 3D Blu-ray Player or LAB550W SoundPlate.

That means that you can play music from any CD or connected USB drive without needing to link the speaker to a PC or TV at all.

All the while, a link to a second device can be maintained, like a phone. Coincidentally, this approach also means you can answer a call from your phone without music having to be paused.

Speaking of which, Auto Music Play allows a smartphone to immediately start playing music when the phone comes within a feet of it, if enabled. That means that if you come home listening to something on your headphones, you only need to place the handset near the Music Flow Wi-Fi speaker and the song will start making itself heard through it without you having to mess up your groove.

A lot of emphasis on convenience and commodity, as you can see. It might even be enough to spoil you, but that's the point of most consumer electronics anyway.

Availability and pricing

The LG 2015 Music Flow Wi-Fi Series lineup is compatible with Android and iOS devices and will start selling in 2015 for unspecified amounts of money. LG HomeChat will be included on all of them, letting you use the LINE free-text messaging app on any smartphone or tablet to control them via simple text commands like “turn off music after one hour” and “play songs for party.”
