Should we prepare for the weirdest headphones of all time?

Nokia have recently started a very funny competition whose aim is to find the design for their next headset. While being a company with a major share in the mobile phone market, Nokia have been tapping into side-niches and especially focusing on bringing forward new and very attractive items in the field of headphones and headsets. The present contest is open for technically everyone willing to create a new design for the future headsets, according to personal ideas; now, the funny thing is that Nokia have promised that they intend to actually build and enter the winning design in mass-production.

This is indeed neat, you'd say. And it really is, but... as you can check out here, some of the designs that have been entered the contest are not only highly impracticable but at the same time utterly ridiculous.

It's one thing to free your mind completely and let your imagination go wild to see what comes out of this... but combining such a mental exercise with the industrial design leads to the most uncanny creations. And if you thought that the bling had been left out of this, you're so wrong: just check out the diamond model after the jump and see what's on some people's minds! Avert your eyes before looking directly to the studded headset as the picture is truly insane; not that Paris Hilton wouldn't crave for such horrible designs...

You can easily begin your designer career by entering here and start messing things up. Your creation will automatically be entered in the contest and all that's left to do is wait for people to vote for it. There is a freestyle section to all this and there you can present your most extravagant creations - such as the graveyard-themed headphones which could go great with a Halloween costume.

Apart from the freestyle section, everything starts with a serious basis in the body of Nokia's Bluetooth stereo headsets BH-501, BH-503, BH-903 and BH-604. While they offer the background for the future designs, you should know that one of the main ideas in all this is that “everything goes”. So, have another cup of coffee and start creating; and who could tell whose amazing (and hopefully not completely stupid) winning design could be featured in the Nokia stores soon?

We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there. That's why we thought it would be a good idea to create an email address for you to help us a little in finding gadgets we missed. Interesting links are bound to be posted with recognition going mainly to those who submit. The address is .
